Oracle Apps 12.2.3 New Features

This Release Update Pack (RUP) for the EBS 12.2 release codeline includes new features as well as statutory and regulatory updates, and error corrections for stability, performance, and security.

This is a consolidated suite-wide patch set. Release 12.2.3 is cumulative and includes new updates as well as updates made available in one-off patches on 11.5.10, 12.0, 12.1.3, and the base 12.2 releases.

User Experience Modernization

With 12.2.3, the Oracle E-Business Suite incorporates current UI design trends and improves user productivity by including:

  • New look and feel: appears lighter and fresher, with flat rather than dimensional elements, reduced gradients, and white or light colors with splashes of darker color.
  • Rich table interaction: allows an end user to scroll through a table if its width exceeds the browser’s width, detach a table and work with it as a separate component with a wider width, and re-size and reorder table columns that an end user can then save as a user personalization.
  • Worklist header icon: displays by default in all HTML-based pages, the worklist header icon is an alternative to including a worklist region in the Oracle E-Business Suite home page. Users can select the icon to view a summarized list of recent notifications, then click to view and respond to notification details.

1. Preparation

If you are upgrading from Release 11i, 12.0.x or 12.1.x to Release 12.2.3, complete the upgrade of Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.0, including the post-upgrade steps, before you apply Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.3.

In Release 12.2.0 and higher, patching is performed by running the new adop (AD Online Patching) utility. You must use adop instead of the adpatch utility that was provided in previous releases.

2. Required Database Patches

3. Apply Consolidated Seed Table Upgrade Patch (Required)

If you haven’t already applied Consolidated Seed Table Upgrade Patch 17204589 (17204589:12.2.0), then you must first apply Patch 17204589 (17204589:12.2.0) on the Run File System following the below instructions before proceeding with the next steps.

Note: If you have upgraded to Release 12.2.0 using Consolidated Upgrade Patch 17197281 [17197281:12.2.0 (CUP4)], then you can skip this step.
  1. Stop all Application tier services on the Run File System.UNIX
    sh $ADMIN_SCRIPTS_HOME/adstpall.sh

    Windows

    C:\>%ADMIN_SCRIPTS_HOME%\adstpall.cmd
  2. Start up only the Weblogic AdminServer service on the Run File System.UNIX
    $ sh $ADMIN_SCRIPTS_HOME/adadminsrvctl.sh start

    Windows

    C:\>%ADMIN_SCRIPTS_HOME%\adadminsrvctl.cmd start
  3. Apply the consolidated seed table upgrade Patch 17204589 (17204589:12.2.0) on the Run File system using adop hotpatch mode.
    $ adop phase=apply patches=17204589 hotpatch=yes
    Note: For existing non-American languages in the system, skip NLS patch application for this. It is not required.
  4. Start up all Application tier services.UNIX
    $ sh $ADMIN_SCRIPTS_HOME/adstrtal.sh

    Windows

    C:\>%ADMIN_SCRIPTS_HOME%\adstrtal.cmd

4. Apply the 12.2.3 AD and TXK Release Update Packs

If you are upgrading from Release 11i, 12.0.x, or 12.1.x to Release 12.2.3 and have already applied the latest AD and TXK Release Update Packs (the same or higher release version than mentioned in this readme), you can skip this section. The minimum required release versions for AD and TXK upgrading to Release 12.2.3 are R12.AD.C.Delta.3 and R12.TXK.C.Delta.3. To apply the Release 12.2.3 AD and TXK Release Update Packs, see Document 1586217.1, Applying the Release 12.2.3 AD and TXK Release Update Packs.

5. Apply the 12.2.3 Suite-Wide Release Update Pack

Having applied the Release 12.2.3 AD and TXK Release Update Packs, you can now proceed to apply the 12.2.3 Suite-Wide Release Update Pack.

  1. Source the run edition applications environment.

    UNIX

    $ . <RUN_BASE>/EBSapps/appl/APPS<CONTEXT_NAME>.env

    Windows

    C:\><RUN_BASE>\EBSapps\appl\envshell<CONTEXT_NAME>.cmd
  2. Start an online patching cycle.
    $ adop phase=prepare
  3. Application Tier Technology Patches

    Application tier technology patches must be applied to the patch file system. Refer to My Oracle Support Knowledge Document 1355068.1Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2 Patching Technology Components Guide for instructions on how to apply technology patches. As you are already in an active adop patching cycle, you should not invoke any adop actions (for example: finalize, cutover, cleanup, fs_clone) as mentioned in the My Oracle Support Knowledge Document 1355068.1. These adop actions should be executed in later steps as mentioned in this document.

    Apply the latest Application tier technology patches documented in ‘Section 3: Application Tier Technology Patches and Bug Numbers’ of My Oracle Support Knowledge Document 1594274.1Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2: Consolidated List of Patches and Technology Bug Fixes.

  4. Apply Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.3 Patch 17020683 and Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.3 Online Help Patch 17020685.
    $ adop phase=apply patches=17020683,17020685
  5. Instantiate the Oracle HTTP Server configuration files admin.conf, ssl.conf, and mod_wl_ohs.conf.
    Note: Since the templates are being instantiated, all the customizations will be lost and have to be restored explicitly.
    1. Source the patch edition environment file:UNIX
      $ . $PATCH_BASE/EBSapps/appl/APPS$CONTEXT_NAME.env

      Windows

      C:\>%PATCH_BASE%\EBSapps\appl\envshell%CONTEXT_NAME%.cmd
    2. Perform the instantiation with the following commands (the backslash at the end of each line is being used to divide each command across several screen lines for readability). When prompted for the APPS password, press <Return>.UNIX
      $ $ADJVAPRG oracle.apps.ad.autoconfig.InstantiateFile \
      -e $CONTEXT_FILE \
      -d $FND_TOP/admin/driver/ohstmpl.drv \
      -tmpl $FND_TOP/admin/template/ssl_conf_FMW.tmp
      $ $ADJVAPRG oracle.apps.ad.autoconfig.InstantiateFile \
      -e $CONTEXT_FILE \
      -d $FND_TOP/admin/driver/ohstmpl.drv \
      -tmpl $FND_TOP/admin/template/mod_wl_ohs_conf_FMW.tmp
      $ADJVAPRG oracle.apps.ad.autoconfig.InstantiateFile \
      -e $CONTEXT_FILE \

    3. $ adop phase=cutover
    4. $ adop phase=cleanup

6. Post-Update Steps

  1. Synchronize file systemsSynchronize the file systems using the command shown below. This action will copy the new run edition code and configuration to the other file system, to help the next online patching cycle complete faster.
    $ adop phase=fs_clone
  2. Grant flexfield value set access to specific users (conditional)Release 12.2 includes a new security feature, flexfield value set security; it controls who can create or modify flexfield values in the Flexfield Values Setup window (FNDFFMSV). Flexfield value set security requires some mandatory setup steps before any users can create or update values in the Values window. You must perform this step if you have not already done so for a previous version of Release 12.2.
    Note: See the ‘Flexfield Value Set Security’ chapter in Oracle® E-Business Suite Flexfields Guide, Release 12.2 (Part No. E22963-07).
  3. Perform Product-Specific Steps (conditional)After you have completed the steps to update all database tier nodes with the latest code level, perform the following post-update steps only if you have licensed this product:
    • HR Legislative customers only: refer to the step “Latest legislation data update (Hrglobal installation)” from the readme of the patch “Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.3 Patch 17020683.”
    • Oracle E-Business Suite Extensions for Oracle Endeca customers: Refer to Installing Oracle E-Business Suite Extensions for Oracle Endeca, Release 12.2 V4 Document 1574273.1 for the complete installation and configuration steps.

If so, you must apply the Release 12.2.3 NLS software patch for each of the existing languages in the system. After applying the Release 12.2.3 NLS software patch, apply the Release 12.2.3 Online Help patch for the language, if available. Refer to the Release 12.2 Translation Scope and Availability Page for scope of Online Help languages.
    Note: If you plan to install new languages after you apply Release 12.2.3 Patch 17020683, refer to Document 1314621.1Oracle E-Business Suite NLS Release Notes.
  5. Run the Patch Wizard for current recommended and high priority product patches.Patch Wizard is a tool included with Oracle Application Manager. Patch Wizard reviews recommended and high priority patches against those that have been applied on your system. Patches can be downloaded and merged using the tool. You can review patch impact to determine how a specific patch or several patches will affect your system. Refer to Patch Wizard UtilityDocument 976188.1.
    Note: If your environment does not allow the patch wizard utility to access My Oracle Support, review How to Find Oracle E-Business Suite Recommended Patches, Document 1400757.1.
